Trump will win again, easily: Liberals simply don't understand what he represents

Trump is accelerating the American empire toward its doom. Democrats can't stop the historical wheel from turning predicted well before the 2016 presidential election that Donald Trump would be elected .  I had felt that way ever since he rode down that golden escalator with his rapist invective. Ever since he was elected, I’ve also believed that he’ll be re-elected, more easily this time. An illustrative personal anecdote, one of many over the last three years: A creative writing Ph.D. I know with tons of debt, whose wife happens to be an undocumented Filipina, became mightily angered by the promise of student debt cancelation. What about those who have paid their dues by taking out debt, he asked? No doubt he would refuse a blanket amnesty for “illegals” too. His DACA wife, as he sees it, paid her dues. Columnists at the  New York Times  are all angry  at the possibility of decriminalizing border crossings, health care for the undocumented and the abolit...

How a top Trump fighter escaped the spotlight in a critical month

‘You can quickly get turned into a pretzel’: How a top Trump fighter escaped the spotlight in a critical month The lower profile of Kellyanne Conway, one of the president’s fiercest defenders, highlighted a mounting challenge for Trump’s team during the impeachment battle.  Two days after House Democrats began their formal impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump, Kellyanne Conway went on national television to assure viewers her boss did nothing wrong in his summer phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Then she went silent. In the middle of the most consequential moment of Trump’s presidency, the sharp-tongued White House counselor, who’s been an indefatigable defender of the Republican leader ever since she took over his campaign in August 2016, appeared to have traded in her ubiquity on cable news for a behind-the-scenes role deep inside the West Wing. Her colleagues and White House allies began to notice. ...

Trump’s Ukraine envoy testifies amid questions of quid pro quo

William Taylor will face questions about his concerns that Trump was withholding military aid to pressure Ukraine to investigate Biden. President Donald Trump’s top envoy to Ukraine arrived on Capitol Hill Tuesday with the potential to deliver some of the most revealing testimony to date about the concerns of a quid pro quo in Democrats’ impeachment inquiry. William Taylor will face questions from House investigators about the deep concerns he had that Trump was withholding military aid to the eastern European nation to pressure Ukrainian leaders to investigate the former vice president and 2020 hopeful Joe Biden on spurious charges. Taylor, who replaced U.S. ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch after her unceremonious ouster by Trump in May, raised alarms with colleagues on Sept. 1 in a text message exchange released earlier this month by the three committees spearheading the inquiry. “Are we now saying that security assistance and [White House] meeting are conditio...

Trump, Republicans and impeachment: This time feels different, but maybe it's not

When my 14-year-old dishwasher broke last month, you’d think I’d have had the common sense not to give in to my craving for ribs. For what seemed like hours, I tried to scrub away the greasy filth that corrupted my once honorable baking pan. Despite its war-torn façade, there was never a doubt that righteous dedication would lift the oily stain. Physics told me so.  But since the day he proclaimed he could shoot a man on 5th Avenue and not lose a single vote, political physics has never applied to the moral dumpster that is President Donald Trump. Until now.  Trump is having a bad month. Not bad in a toilet paper dangling from his shoe while boarding Air Force One kind of way. Bad in a way that could imperil his presidency. Yes, we’ve heard this before, but this time feels different. This time, every presidential misstep takes place in the context of an active congressional impeachment proceeding.  A ba...
